“Fabienne”, storm made quite some disruption in the city of Germany. To report the causalities there has been death of one person and a 4 year old baby. The storm raged across Germany. Though the transport links are unaffected but there were warnings that were ignored by the people at Oktoberfest.
The first autumn storm is said to have destroyed southern and central parts of Germany on Sunday. The storm names “Fabienne” claimed a life of 78 year old women who was hit by a falling tree and died on spot at a campsite in Bavaria.
Meanwhile, in the neighbouring state of Germany, state of Baden-Württemberg, a large beach tree blew because of the violent winds. The tree fell onto a car and there was a 4 year old boy in the car that suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to the nearest hospital in a helicopter where he remained in critical condition.
The south of Hesse, parts of Thuringia and Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and Saxony were particularly badly hit by “Fabienne”
Several roads were closed in Germany as the authorities had to clear the way and the fallen trees on the path. Other than that, several tracks on the south of the country have been damaged because of the storm.
A lot of flights were cancelled on the Frankfurt airport because of the storm and the weather conditions. There was air traffic in Switzerland, where Zurich, Basel and Geneva airports all reported major delays in flying.
All the storm details were taken up by the weather services by Sunday evening as it travelled southwards towards neighbouring Austria.
Many people decided to give up on the festival and head home early but there were few who partied longer.
